Silicon resonators using MEMS technology
Virtually every electronic system needs an accurate and reliable clock. Today, quartz crystals are used almost exclusively for this purpose. While achieving excellent performance, quartz crystal technology is 50 years old and limitations of integrability with other functions and size reductions are becoming increasingly problematic.
Proposed 1965 MEMS resonators have long been considered as an alternative, but so far failed to meet all the constraints by the very demanding and price sensitive timing market. In this talk we will analyze the requirements and present the evolution of a solution from concept to market introduction.
