RF MEMS Contact Switch Technology for Adaptive Power Amplifiers
Proliferation of wireless standards and increased complexity of next generation handsets drive the need for adaptive radio architectures. One possible approach is to utilize RF MEMS switch enabled adaptive front ends.
This presentation introduces motivation for and discusses possible adaptive architectures as related to RF power amplifiers (PAs). The performance of PAs with fixed and adaptive impedance matching networks is compared. Furthermore, RF MEMS switch is discussed as enabling technology for building adaptive PAs. Details of RFMD’s MEMS switch technology include specifications, key fabrication steps, test methodology and measurement results.
