Nature/Scope of the Energy Industry Monitoring & Management Landscape

Measuring energy usage is the key to eliminating energy waste. If you cant measure the waste, you cant eliminate it. The challenge is to know what, where and when to measure and then how to measure energy cost-effectively. Wireless communications is a technology that can (1) reduce installation costs, (2) provide flexible data delivery, and (3) allow low-cost sensor location changes as we learn what, where and when to measure energy. This presentation will provide an overview of electricity distribution systems in the US, present a few electricity monitoring challenges, and discuss how wireless technology already plays a role.
