Semiconductor Nanopillar Arrays for Efficient Photovoltaics and Photodetectors
The ability to grow high-quality, vertically oriented, single-crystalline nanopillar (NPL) arrays non-epitaxially enables the fabrication of novel and potentially highly-efficient opto-electronic devices on arbitrary substrates. A discussion of the advantages and constraints of NPL photovoltaics, specifically the CdS/CdTe material system, supported by device modeling, will be presented. In addition, the ability to engineer the optical properties of a material by utilizing multiple diameter NPLs is presented.
