Environmental Monitoring: Gas Pipelines, Distribution Cables, and Airborne Particulate Matter

Natural gas pipelines and high-voltage underground electric distribution cables fail unexpectedly with deadly consequences, and airborne particulate matter causes serious health problems. We will discuss means under investigation for sensing the condition and monitoring the operating characteristics of pipelines and power cables, and of measuring the concentration of small particulate matter in the atmosphere.
