BMAD

BMAD is Berkeley Micromechanical Analysis and Design Group. Professor. Albert P. Pisano is the Prinicpal Investigator (PI) of our research group. Our group consists of 4 postdocs, 25+ graduate students from various backgrounds - mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, bioengineering, chemistry, etc. BMAD is a part of Mechanical Engineering of UC Berkeley and the mechanical engineering branch of Berkeley Sensor and Actuator Center (BSAC), research center funded by the National Science Foundation and a consortium of corporations and government agencies. Founded in 1986, BSAC's research focus is on MEMS / Nano sensors and actuators.

Our research topics are MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems), Nanotechnology, Biosensors, etc. A few current research projects are listed below:

  • Radio Frequency (RF) Nano-Mechanical Resonators (NMRs)
  • SiC Harsh Environment Sensors
  • Infrared Sensors
  • Microgimbal
  • Chemical & Bio Sensors
  • Micro-cooling systems
  • Micro EM actuators
