Cadence is a CAD tool used for layout design. It was originally
created for IC design, but it is very useful as a layout editor for MEMS.
For layout you can also use Ledit or SolidWorks. Cadence can do a lot more
than layout if you care to learn about it. See the Other
Resources section below for tutorials and setup instructions.
Installation:
- Install Exceed 7.0
from SWW
- Start Exceed by clicking: Start > Programs > Hummingbird
Connectivity V7.0 > Exceed > Exceed. Make certain that Exceed is
running for the entire time you use Cadence.
- Setup Exceed per the instructions of Joe Seeger: http://www-bsac.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cadence/faq/exceed.txt
- Install SSH Secure
Shell 2.4 (if it is not installed already)
- Open an SSH shell: Start > Programs > SSH Secure Shell > SSH
Secure Shell Client
- Click Quick Connect
- Under host name, use one of the machines listed in: http://www-bsac.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cadence/notes/machines.txt
- Use your EECS username under username.
- For password, use your UNIX password, which may be different from your
Windows password. If it doesn't work regardless of what you do,
you probably didn't setup your UNIX password properly. Contact CUSG.
- Once you've logged onto a UNIX machine, type tcsh or, if that
doesn't work, type csh.
- Cadence is a UNIX-based program, so you must setup your UNIX shell
appropriately. To do this, follow Joe's instructions: http://www-bsac.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cadence/starting.html
- You can now run Cadence by typing one of the following:
 | layout & -This command
only loads the layout tools
 | msfb & -Loads
the layout, schematic, and circuit simulation tools
 | icfb
& -Loads everything we
have |

Resources section.
