Alexandre Bayen received his engineering degree in applied mathematics, Ecole Polytechnique, France, 1998; M.S. in aeronautics and astronautics, Stanford University, 1999; Ph.D. in aeronautics and astronautics, Stanford University, 2003. He was a Visiting Researcher at NASA Ames from 2000 to 2003 and worked in 2004 as the Research Director of the Autonomous Navigation Laboratory at the Laboratoire de Recherches Balistiques et Aerodynamiques, (Ministere de la Defense, Vernon, France) where he holds the rank of Major. He has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley since January 2005. His research interests include mobile sensing and location based services. His research group is known for the development of Mobile Millennium, a smartphone based traffic information system built jointly with Nokia, operational in California.
