Running Cadence on the BSAC cluster
This page describes how to (1) setup and (2) start Cadence version 4.4.5
(2000). It is still possible to run Cadence 99 (also version 4.4.5),
and this is briefly explained at the end of this page.
Cadence 4.4.5 (2000) Setup
-
Step 1 (optional): Make a Cadence directory.
Cadence generates a lot of files and directories, so it is recommended
that you make a separate directory (i.e. ~/cadence).
-
Step 2: Set the executable and license paths.
-
Step 3: Remove old Cadence configuration
-
If you have any questions about the following instructions, contact me
at cadence@bsac.
-
REMOVE from .cshrc all of the following lines or similar lines, if they
exist:
source ~cadence/config/cadence99.cshrc
source ~rconant/photonic/photonic.cshrc
-
REMOVE from your .cshrc the following lines or similar lines, if they exist:
setenv CDS_INST_DIR /usr/eesww/cadence/97A
setenv CDS_LICENSE_DIR $CDS_INST_DIR/share/license
-
REMOVE from your .cshrc references to Cadence directories in path statements,
if they exist (for example):
set path = ($path . $CDS_INST_DIR/tools/dfII/bin$CDS_INST_DIR/tools/bin)

Starting Cadence

Step 1: Choose a machine.
This version of Cadence interferes with a previous
version of Cadence. To prevent conflicts, some machines should be
used for this version, and other machines should be used for the previous
version. Please refer to this list of machines.
-
Step 2: Change to your Cadence directory
for example:
-
Step 3: Start Cadence
There are many commands that start some form
of Cadence. Here are three "popular" methods:
-
layout
-This command only loads the layout tools
-
msfb
-Loads the layout, schematic, and circuit simulation tools
-
icfb
-Loads everything we have
Once Cadence has loaded the command interpreter window
(CIW) should be visible. It is the window with the menus File, Tools,
Options, Technology File. This window can control all of Cadence.
You use this window to quit Cadence.
-
Step 4: Library Manager
The library manger window should be open.
If it is not, start the manger from the Tools menu in the command window:
CIW -> Tools -> Library Manager
-
Step 5: Design...
